This is a whole different critter than the winery's quaffable '99. It is tart and resiny, with a strong scent of licorice. The rustic flavors are earthy and rough, with a bitter, alcoholic finish. || The reserve is not particularly oaky; rather it puts the emphasis on straightforward, well-rendered green apple fruit flavors, augmented with some balanced flavors of licorice and vanilla.
