Merlot has long been a particular strength at Forgeron. Up front in this new release is a thick vein of chocolate around rich black cherry fruit. The wine dips a bit in midpalate, then re-emerges in a finish with chewy tannins and citrusy acidity. The odds strongly favor more improvement with further bottle age; try after 2016.
