The dryness hits you first, then the tannins. This is a Syrah that's hard and astringent, almost aggressive. But then the core of blackberries and cherries kicks in, turning spicy and licorice-like on the finish. Suddenly, the wine is interesting. One to watch, if the winemaker can manage those bigtime tannins. || I like this Merlot for its plush fruit and soft balance.
