This is one of those wines that seems to get better by the sip. At first glance, the fruit seems a bit cooked or pruny, but within a few minutes it brightens and turns livelier, coming across as cherry. There's a mushroomy or meaty note as well—something akin to venison—and a rich texture on the palate.
