A little sweat, a little funk in the nose; following that, the wine is sturdy and substantial. Made with fruit from 36-year-old vines which the winery says are the oldest in the AVA. It shows a flavorful mix of herb, bark, earth, pepper, rock and dark, tannic, muscular fruit. Better winemaking would dramatically improve the score.
