Aromas of balsam wood, blackberry, asphalt, leather and peppercorn combine into a complex and appealing whole. This is big and tannic, but with snappy acidity, it's harmonious. Blackberry, cassis and boysenberry flavors show chocolaty richness, while a moderately hot finish keeps things going in the right direction; drink through 2020.
