Herb, spice, smoke and a whiff of roasted meat lead into a wine that is balanced and deep. This puts a focus on the dark side: black fruits, tar, coffee and smoke. It's grainy and tannic, and the tannins and toast may eventually outrun the fruit. But it's a good effort in a Washington style, that captures the black olive and herbal leanings of the Bordeaux grapes.
