Earth and tobacco, backed by modest cassis flavors that are already starting to thin out. Dry tannins mark the finish. The '99 (non-Reserve) is a better bet. || Dark earth, graham cracker and plush purple fruit aromas introduce a wealth of blueberry and black plum flavors wrapped in oaky spice. The wine is smooth from eight months in new French oak, though the oak could not fully tame such ripe, heavy tannins. Can be drunk over the next decade.
